[shadow=teal,left,300] Let the discussion begin...[/shadow] Eight groups of four, in which everyone plays everyone once (or twice?). The top two go through into the knockout stage.
You can only play games that are on Crespo's list. Should the tourney be one-scheme-only (eg Intermediate)?
Games must be at least best-of-three (Bo3). Shall we make it so that, say, the semi-finals and final are played Bo5?

Yeah twice, home away. That's for sure. About the number of rounds I think that group stage games should be best of 3, while playoff games should be best of 3 or best of 5, acording the wormer's agreements over it. Thinking that I might randomize the playoff games's schemes from the list it won't be advisable to use best of 5 settings in "no-restock/stockpiling" schemes... But this is not sure...

I think the fairest way to play the tournament would be to use just one scheme, say Intermediate with default settings (that gives an oldie like me a chance ) except that the 8 worms would be manually placed and the game palyed on a totally random terrain so that neither wormer has an advantage. the terrain could be selected by clicking on the map an agreed number of times between 1-10. This way it will not only test a wormers weapon skills but also how they adapt to new terrains and how cleverly they place their worms. This way the best all round player would surely triumph, while giving everyone a level playing field upon which to play. huh?

Who likes to wait half an hour to put 16 worms on map knowing that there is not enough place for 16 worms (especially if map is "totally random") then play 3 rounds using just shotgun?

The home away system will be used in Group Stage, but in Playoff stage I'm thinking playing every game in Interm. 8 worms random placement best of 5... How about it?

OK so manually placing worms takes a bit of time (about 3 mins), but I was talking about fairest way for wormers, not the fastest. Random worms placement can be such a disadvantage if you get an unlucky lay. At least if you place the worms yourself then you have only yourself to blame. If time really is an issue then we could consider using 6 worms. I think 6 worms manually placed to be better & fairer than 8 placed at random. Regarding Jigs comments about terrains, you've got to be really unlucky to get a dead flat terrain & end up with a shotgun game. If a flat terrain was randomly selected then all you have to do is agree to click the map again. ;D

Teletubbies I think that the luck factor of random placement can be minimized if we use 8 worms cuz' everybody will certainly get about 2 or 3 easy kills. And besides, if the game is best of 5, it may happen to you or your oponnent and what is a sport without the luck factor? In football matches we all say it's (un)lucky when the ball hits the goal posts, but there can't be a goal without the posts, right? I'm getting off topic... Continuing, self placement makes the game to be very based on shotgun. And if you get some nasty spots there is always the Worm Selects... No decision has been made so far but the discussion is advancing.

I seem to be a minority of one, that’s fine, I take on board the considered thoughts of my fellow wormers. I the accept that they have some merit. I will desist in my crusade for manually placing worms although I still consider that they produce the fairest game. So fellow wormers lets have random worms all round and don't blame me if I turn out to have all my worms in bunkers (some hope ) while yours teeter on the edge of oblivion. ON towards next year’s tournament and random worms for everyone!!!

Teletubbies remember that I refered to the Interm. random games as for being playoff stage games. In group stage the home/away system will be used and there you can play your home games with the placement you want. You play twice versus everybody, once on your scheme and the other time on the other guy's scheme.

Here's an interesting fact - i've never (that i can remeber) won a normal game with random placement off. Never in the 5 years WA's been out.
Having non-random placements isnt always fair - its unfair on those of us (me) who cant use it, for some reason.

My opinion about random placement? Random is a part of that game, if someone wants to control everything, he will have to think about crates too ... turn it off coz it could change the fate of a game... Shadows and dust....

I have decided about the format of the 2004 schematic issue. GROUP STAGE » HOME/AWAY SYSTEM with the listed schemes PLAYOFF STAGE » INTERMEDIATE best-of-5 random placement 8 worms. I think it's the best thing to do.
