You dont get away with it that easily Zero?
For those of you who missed it, the following is a copy of the original post that Zero made earlier today.
Hello Everyone,
It's been a while since I've taken the time to post anything on this message board, mostly due to the fact that I've been terribly busy. However, now that I have a moment to stop in, I would like to take the time to post something I've been meaning to post for quite some time. I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to read this post. Thank you.
Some of you might already know me. My name is GameMaster Zero, and I am the system administrator of the GameMasters Message Board, as well as the host of the GameMasters weeknight Worms World Party games, which take place four times a week. I've had the pleasure of competing against some of you over the course of the last few months, and I must admit that there are a couple of very talented wormers in this tournament. I am also aware that most of you have given high praise to Crespo's Worms Tournament. In fact, Crespo himself has taken the time to praise his tournament by posting about it repeatedly on my message board. However, I would like to make it known that not all of us are praising Crespo's Worms Tournament. There are plenty of people, including Spike, Makimura, and myself, who regret entering this tournament for reasons I will inform you of in this post. There are a few other competitors in the tournament who regret having entered, however, I will not give their names without having first asked their permission. I can also name quite a good many talented wormers who thought about joining this tournament, but decided against it after having heard testimonies from myself and other wormers. Some of the people who did not enter were Cheese, Nightblade, and GameMaster Zeta. I would like to let all of you know why these people, including myself, don't care for Crespo's tournament anymore.
For starters, I would like to point out that Crespo himself claims that this tournament is set up for "normal" wormers. The truth is, out of all of the matches I have competed in during this tournament, I have seldom played against a "normal" wormer. In fact, it seems to me that most of you people competing in this tournament will only play if the game settings are to your exact specifications. Nobody seems to play a normal game. Most of you have to request extra ropes, worms selects, jetpacks, and various other forms of assistance in order to play. You also seem to only want to play on terrains that fit your specific game style. Just a moment ago, I was playing a tournament match against someone (I won't state his name), and he kept repeatedly asking me to change the terrain before a round, even though I had selected it based off of a random number that I had him decide on. I am sorry, but if you guys can only win a game if the settings and terrain match your specific requests, then you are not the "world's best wormers" that Crespo likes to claim you all are.
As for Crespo himself, I don't mean to publicly attack the man, because I'm sure that deep down, he honestly believes he's hosting a fair tournament. Unfortunately, I must say that this is not the case. You see, he isn't hosting a Worms World Party tournament. He's hosting a Worms Armageddon tournament using Worms World Party. He has personally asked that this tournament be for "normal" wormers only, and that no wormpot modes be used except for the occasional fort mode. It saddens me to notice that I'm the only person who realizes that this tournament is set up precisely to the way Crespo is used to playing. A fair WWP tournament would have players taking advantage of the wormpot modes and various available schemes, which is what, after all, separates Worms World Party from Worms Armageddon. But instead, Crespo is basically saying to all of you, "We're going to play this tournament the way I'm used to playing it - by what I think are normal rules, and we can sometimes play fort mode also." Come on guys, I know that you aren't stupid. Surely you have to notice that Crespo is giving himself the greatest advantage of all by only allowing the things he's used to into this supposedly fair tournament.
Another thing I'd like to point out is that the actual premise for this tournament is quite awful. We're almost halfway through the year, and a lot of you still haven't played your group stage matches. This isn't a football tournament, it's Worms World Party. It takes about 30 minutes to play a full game, and you've only got to play three games (sometimes two) to complete your group stage. Why does it take you people so long to set up your games? GameMaster Makimura has been trying since day one to complete her group stage games, and there are still people in her group that haven't responded to her e-mails. She's so discouraged by the people in this tournament that she's near the edge of saying "fuck this" and playing something else instead. Now we're at the point where Crespo has set up a deadline for everyone to complete their group stage games. Is this really necessary? Are you all such utter children that you need the tournament host to baby you and tell you what date you must complete your group stage matches by? This has got to be the longest and most dragged-out tournament I have ever competed in. I, myself, have been having a hard time contacting my group stage opponents, especially considering people seem to drop out and get replaced every month. On the odd occasions I actually get one of my opponents to compete against me, it always seems to have to be at some ungodly horrible hour that fits their schedule perfectly.
My point is that not everyone thinks this tournament is a wonderful thing. I have met some very awesome people in this tournament, however I feel that the tournament itself is a joke. I'm sure that some of you will read this post and think that I'm just being a whiny shit, but the truth of the matter is that I've been competing in video game tournaments since I was 12, and I've seen my fair share of wins and losses. I've developed a great eye for being able to tell when a tournament is well-put together, and Crespo's Worms Tournament is simply the worst I've ever been in. All of you seem to be playing by your own little rules instead of actual standard tournament rules. If I were to play a game (any game) by my own specifications and personal settings, of course I'm going to win. Crespo has gone as far as to not only play a game by his own personal settings, but to host an entire tournament this way.
So, we've got a host who doesn't understand the concept of fairness. We've got tournament rules that dictate that if someone leaves at the end of a round, it must be replayed. We've got rude competitors (such as Nut, who likes to constantly refer to Makimura as a bitch). We've got competitors who wouldn't set up their group stage games if you were to hold a gun to their head. I am sorry, guys, but none of this adds up to a decent tournament. Crespo says that you are all the world's best wormers. That is complete bullshit. If you guys were the world's best wormers, you'd be able to play a game of Worms World Party with completely random settings, including Wormpot modes and schemes, instead of playing by your specific little rules. If you were the world's best wormers, you'd all be able to behave much better than you do in Wormnet, and you wouldn't be driving people away from the tournament.
A tournament is supposed to be about competing to see who is the best competitor. Last year, Xaositect won the tournament. For the record, I have nothing against Xaositect, but the fact that I was able to defeat him not long ago in a game where I was terribly disadvantaged due to a busted keyboard tells me that this tournament isn't doing a good job of deciding who the best wormer is. I personally believe that I am capable of beating most of you in a random match. I also believe that Kortren could do the same. I believe Spike could do the same. I can also name a few other people, such as Tazman and Zepherillas, who aren't even in the tournament, who I believe could defeat most of you in a random match. The problem is that you guys don't play random matches. You've built a tournament based on the settings you believe should be considered "normal." It's not like me to be upset over the way a tournament is being held, but the plain and simple fact is that my name is being connected to this tournament, and I am ashamed of it.
I will not be returning to this tournament next year, and I am aware of many others who also won't be returning. I just happen to be the only person with the courage to speak up and post his thoughts on the subject.
If any of you who understand the things I've stated in this post would like to test your skill at a real game of Worms World Party, please feel free to compete in one of our weeknight GameMasters Worms World Party games, which I host every Monday through Thursday night at 7:00 PM Mountain Time. On a normal night, you'll find Makimura, Tazman, Kortren, Cheese, Zepherillas, Spike, and myself in the game. However, there's almost always a free spot available for someone to join and compete. This isn't a challenge, but an invitation to those of you who are honestly seeking a fair game with random settings and respectable competitors.
Last word: Crespo, you invited me to join this tournament by saying that you were told I am one of the best wormers around. I took that as a compliment at the time. However, seeing as how you now claim that the people in this tournament are the best wormers in the world, I can see that you have absolutely no clue whatsoever what a good wormer is.
