I wonder if it would be a good idea to record the finals for posterity somehow?
I for one I would love to watch the match and you can only fit in 6 spectators!
I know there is at least one tool called Fraps that records any screen activity into uncompressed avi which could then be encoded to divx or xvid easily... I think this is just about the only recording program that might work with Worms.
I am just gathering opinions before investigating any further...

By this rate of game playing we'll be lucky enough if we have a final. >

Send an ultimatum as you did with Voodoo vs fury.

speaking 2 lucky spectators equipped with good screengrabber: Well if nevertheless final will be recorded can we change the screen size to 400*300? and maybe change the codec to divx? doing it we will reduce the size of the file in two... or maybe more so it will be more download friendly

No not Divx. the file would be only a little smaller but there would be a hole heap of trouble with compatibility and people getting the right codecs( and the codec to work on there player of choice). I can encode it to Mpeg-2 or 1 and get the file size down by reducing the frame rate to 10 -15 FPS and using a GOP structure with more B @ P frames. Any way we do it the file will be a few hounded Mb's with decent quality, and only useful to members with broadband connection. Maybe those of us with good connections could volunter to burn the video to disk and mail it others in your area. Although the best solution may be to just have the final played in WA and use the record feature. The file would be only a few Kb's but U could only watch it if U have WA installed. So we are back to square one since people with out WA would have to download the game CD from me at 700Mb. And of course there are subtle differences in the game its self.

I'll be happy to mail the file to anyone in UK.
Bytor, if you make it to the final, you might want to delegate the recording to someone? I would imagine it slows the machine down quite a bit and you wouldn't want to have any of that when playing such an important game?
If so, what are the requirements for such a task? I think you need vast amounts of hard drive space for the uncompressed avi? What software you use to record it, is it commercial or free?
Anyway, it may also reduce the final file size if you set the backround to black... I still think divx or xvid would be better than mpeg, and would surely work if the instructions to install the right version were clear...

I will have to get back to U on what kind of PC one would need to do the recording, last year the original software I used was extremely intense on hardware. Using uncompressed AVI format the file worked out to be about 500 Mb for every min of recording. So not only would U need a huge hard drive but a really fast one able to write at that speed as well as a lot of memory to buffer the building file.
If I play in the final, I have more then one PC in my house networked together. That is how I answer MSN messages while I am playing. I will have to see if my laptop is up to the task. So I may be able to play and record. My laptop has a Pentium 4 and only 512 MB DDR 333 I have never been real impressed by Intel's CPUs when I bought the laptop it was not available with an AMD chip :-(
P.S. No DIVX- it is more trouble then it is worth and I want nothing to do with that format.

I have worked out most of the bugs from last year and I am ready to record this year's final in even better quality. But we will still need a good method of distribution. Does anyone has access to a high speed FTP or WEB server we can make use of?

BitTorrent is always an option. Although I understand some people had problems with it last year. I find it works ok after I punched holes to my Windows firewall.

I used Bit torrent last year but there are a couple of problems, 1st was finding a reliable tracker to use and the 2nd is speed. Although I have a ridiculous fast down stream speed my up stream speed is capped at around 312Mb/s and I was the only seed for the torrent. We really need to find an FTP or other means.

The whole point of BitTorrent is that you won't be the only seed. Ok, for a while you'll be the only one who has the whole file, so you have to keep seeding at least until someone else has it all.
But as you know, as soon as somebody else has downloaded even a small part of the file, they start seeding (or sharing) that part immediately.
I only meant that BitTorrent is a valid back-up option. I hope you haven't got anything fundamental against it so that you rather not share the file at all, if you can't find an FTP server.

Isn't the GMail account a good idea? (I don't know if david was joking as I'm not sure it would work but it doesn't seem too stupid )
