Review of my last group stage game in CWT 2004: Voodoo 1 x 2 Crespo This was a game played on the limit of my (ours, perhaps) darksider abilities. The oponnent was an assumed darksider and I had to take all my skills on to the game. And I desperately needed to win this game to be qualified for the playoffs. On first round I think I really played well. My strategic options were successfull and moves were executed with style and perfection. When it was over I hadn't wasted my nana, my dyna, my Supa Sheep and had got an extra crate of ropes, having wasted only 1 in that round. I was feeling confident about the outcome of that game... However, luck almost lost me that same game. Beginning at the point were round 2 begins what happens? I got booted back to desktop! Tragedy!! Voodoo told me he had got 2 pigeons on the 2 crates he got so we decided to even the weapons and start it all over. On round 2, I went with everything I had to get Voodoo on 2-0 but he resisted very well, outplayed me and had himself a crate of ropes (which were decisive on winning him that round). I wasted everything but my nana, hadn't got any rope, any girder, no dyna, no super sheep. When round 3 was to begin I was starting to shake... I was really nervous. I used all the dark abilities I had and made some good shots. I had the advantage when V. gets himself a crate shower!! Because he didn't had the chance to collect the crates with the worm he had that turn, I was given with that chance but I miserably missed a simple backflip and therefore gave V. 3 or 4 crates. There was a cold chill on my back by that time... I had nothing left to do than keep on with my game, not knowing what V. had got in that shower. On the last moment in the war, i decided to open the cocoon where my worm was, it had 78 points of health. V.'s last worm had little more than 40, he roped out to me and got face to face with my worm. On that moment I thought "Let's see what he got ni that shower crates...". Although the luck on crates went for the british it became even by that time cuz' he didn't got anything that could take the 78 out of me worm. He sheep launched me (erratically) and I won the game with the mighty handgun (he had crippled himself with the sheep launching). I launched a huge PHEW... Congrats for Voodoo on making such a good game possible and we'll be seeing each other again next sunday for the tie-breaker! This game had put a huge smile in Crespo, as a wormer; but also as Crespo, as the host. Having to win a game to make it through to the playoff stage was simply stressing and an extremely good moment. If I passed easily to palyoff stage it wouldn't feel so good. Congratulations to MajesticJara because you played equal to me and to Voodoo. That first game we had was decisive and you lost by only 1 point. Applause from Crespo. For the most impacient ones, i was informed that the lazy tixas is playing thursday and probably more than one game. The tie-breaker for my group's leadership will be made next sunday afternoon and let us wait to see who will arise from Group F. Review concluded.

What can I say, the score belies the extremely close and hard fought game. Both Chicken23 and I played our hearts out, both games when to sudden death it was sooooo close and so tactical that it could easily have gone either way. The first round reached sudden death, we both had 2 worms left but it was my turn and I was able to jetpack over to Chicken’s worms and kamikaze through them to take the round.
The second round was equally close, Chicken23 had 1 worm with 125 health, I had one at the top of the screen with 50 and one he had skunked earlier with1 health; he picked my 50 health worm and went to jetpack over to it and finish it off. Unfortunately for him he ran out of power and dropped to the bottom of the map near an oil drum. I flew over with my 1 health worm and set off a mine hoping that the drum and me dying would finish him off. Sadly for me I did a lot of damage but there was no hole for Chicken’s to drop through and drown. Next turn Chicken teleported over to the other side of the map and we were in a stand off situation. Both of us were aware of the homing missile trap and stayed away from the roof, although Chicken managed some great zooka shots off the screen with the wind taking them over to me and crashing into the roof above me. Many turns went by (we had a pretty good chat) and the water level rose. Who was going to fire their homing missile first and risk missing, or should we wait until a certain kill was possible? In the end I thought with about 10 seconds to the end of my turn that I must either use my missile or face certain death next turn. There was still a lot of terrain beneath Chicken’s worm but I launched it anyway. The blast zone was just enough to knock the last health point off his worm. The match was mine 2-0, but was soooo close. This is what make this game so great….because; “It's not over 'til it's over”
Well played mate, it was a great battle and a real pleasure playing against such a good competitor :-)

Group F's status is intriguing at the moment. I think the most probable outcome now is 13 winning and TT coming second, but I wouldn't bet on it

Another epic game for me, I really needed this one to make sure I qualified. I played home against 13, it was an intermediate game, Bytor came along to watch. To be honest the first game was a bit of a blur, it was hard and close, ending up with both of us on either side of a wide piece of terrain tunnelling towards each other. I had hung on to my Holy and dropped it at the end of my tunnel from a rope and pulled myself to safety, the blast radius was large enough to take out 13, first game to me.
The second game was equally tough, we each had one worm left, but I had an edge with me having 92 health and 13 something like 79 health. If I had had my baseball bat I could easily have knocked him off the screen, instead I dropped a mine on him knocking his health down again. We had used all our big weapons and I thought I should be safe, but sudden death cut in on 13’s turn, it was an easy kill he shot gunned me, the match was at 1 each.
In the third game 13 was all over me, he was well it the lead with something like 4 or 5 worms to 2 (one of those only had 6 health) I had to stand my ground picking off his worms because he had no switches left. The game then went into sudden death, 2 of his worms were so low down that they drowned, I petrol bombed one worm but 13 was relentless, he saw a chance where he might be able to use his last rope and shotgun my last 2 worms. Unfortunately for 13 on his attack he had to jumped across a gap, the worm slipped and drowned. Game over, Teletubbies 2-1 13. The 3 rounds took an incredible 1 hour 15 mins 46 seconds to play. It was a tough game and honourably played. 13 has his last group match against Paranoico, which if he wins will put him as winner of Group F, well played mate.

Review of the tie-breaker between me and Voodoo: Round 1: Cave map. This was a round in which both players had good and bad periods. First it was I who started very bad and Voodoo got me to 5 worms to 2. But at that point I started playing very nice, made a darkside comeback and got 2 worms to 1 of Voodoo. The game was at sudden death when I tried to kamikaze V's last worm but I missed. It was 1 to 1 worm and the 2 worms were at oposite points of the map. I couldn't move more than shotgun tunelling by that time and V himslef was low on stuff but he tried a long voyage on foot to me (he could have done it) but a missed jump on to a very inclinated ridge got me my first round. Round 2: Open map. I tried but I couldn't handle this round. V was incredibly strong in the lightside play. I made some mistakes and he didn't. 1-1. Round 3: Open map. V started first: double kill. My turn: double kill. V's second turn: double kill. My second turn: shitty move. Result: couldn't keep up. V finished me pretty quickly with the help of a double damage. Total ass whipping!! Round 4: Cave map. I started to feel some pressure here but as I looked at this cave I thought: "I'm not going to lose this one." An awesome display of worming from me was shown to V and this time I was the ass kicker. Voodoo didn't made any huge mistake but I overplayed him, winning him with about 3 worms left. I forgot to ask V: "who's the darksider now?" Round 5: Open map. Judging by my poor display of worming in open maps on that day I started shaking when we went for this open, besides, V was first to move. But this time I managed to be the "Mr. Lightside" too. Voodoo lost 1 or 2 early turns and I was nearly at the 1-shot-1-kill performance. Besides, I was managing to kill V's worms with no waste of movement resources while V was wasting all of his's. In the end i had no more selects and needed to made a huge voyage to V cuz' he was in condition of a darkside recovery cuz' he hided his worm nicely. I had to waste my final ropes in order to get him and jesus i was so slow at roping! I started shaking really bad but I managed to shotgun V in the last second of that turn. GG V and gl to Bytor.

Review of my eight-quarter-final game: Crespo 3 - 2 Raven I won't say much this time. The french newcomer gave me a very good fight. Bytor had the oportunity to watch it. 1st round: Open map. I controled operatios quite easily here as Raven lost some important turns and made some bad shots. 1-0 2nd round: Cave map. Same thing than 1st round but the players switched. I made some bad wormin' and Raven did good. 1-1 3rd round: Open map. There I went again playing good while Raven didn't manage to keep up. 2-1 4th round: Cave map. I could have won here but 2 very very good moves on Raven allowed him the win. 2-2 5th round: Open map. Interesting round this one: on 1st turn Raven made an easy kill. I responded in the same level in my turn. Then, on Raven's 2nd turn he made a severe-luck kill. He wanted to kill one of my worms in the water with 2 arrows. On the first arrow the worm was dumped in a ridge but the worm got close to the edge which made the 2nd arrow to be impossible to be shot from the worm's back and Raven went for the suicidal move of shooting the arrow on front of the rolling worm. The worms went rolling together with the same speed and location but, as they started braking mine went on the water and Raven's stood up on the last pixel of terrain. On that point I got mad and very pissed! I cursed a lotin the room... I went on a lightside rampage to wipe Raven out, I didn't diserve that kill... I managed to wipe 3 enemy worms (plus one of my squad too) in one shot with a successfull dynamite and got even with lady luck herself cuz' I got a minigun in a crate which allowed me a double kill on worms with 100 points (I had to kill one of my own squad too there otherwise I wouldn't kill the enemys loaded with energy). Although it doesn't happen to me very often that way (I usually make silly mistakes when it does) the rise of rage on me allowed a perfect round. The game lasted 1 hour and 12 min. Congrats for making your defeat so hard Raven. I had to win this game (at least I will do better than last year now)...

Well played Biology-boy and bad luck to Raven. On the subject of Raven, I might aswell say now that unless someone does something memorable, Sylvain "Le Super" Mouton will be my nomination for the Man of the Tournament. This is because he did so well in the qualifying competition and was the first player to get all his games played in the actual tournament.

Penguin, you're really the pun master here ;D Although it's sad he lost, I'm happy that the other french in the tourney did very well, impressive, man! I hope I'll be able to make France go further in the playoffs.

MrTPenguin v Chicken23 This was a rollercoaster of a game - here are the highlights: Round 1 was pretty close, and at the end Chicken looked set to finish my last two worms off with his cows à la Xaositect last year. Fortunately for me, it went wrong, and I went 1-0 up. The second round was in a cavern and it featured the "unlucky nade of the year" by Chicken - he tried to kill a worm on less than 10, but instead the nade came back at him, killed his worm, and took down another one of his worms into the sea with it! Costly little mistakes like these dogged him throughout the game. I won the round, and was expecting a comfortable 3-0 or maybe 3-1 win. How wrong I was! In the next round, Chicken oblitered me: he killed 3 of my worms in his first turn and 2 in his second. My attempts to reply failed and he won the round with 6 worms remaining! The next round was a like a drunken pub-brawl, and culminated in a situation similar to that in round one. This time, however, Chicken triumphed thanks to a good nade and a homing missile. The tide was well and truly in Chicken's favour at this stage, and I was staring a 3-2 defeat in the face. I said to myself: "Am I gonna come to pieces and lose, or am I gonna be a pro and go out there and give it my all?" I did the latter: a row of major mistakes by Chicken coupled with a series of double-kills by me gave me the match. I had 7 worms left at the end of the round (cf. round three)! Chicken will remember this a comedy of errors on his part, but he should take pride in the fact that he came back from 2-0 down and took the game all the way to round five. Bad luck Tommy and better luck next year.

really good games i enjoyed them. My mistakes were comical rather than annoying so i didnt get too worked up about it. I'll be waiting eagerly for next year. Maybe the battle of the flightless birds will occur again. vggs bobby

I just felt the crushing power of NormalPro, he beat me 3-0 and deserved the win without question. He put together 3 well constructed games tactically, and no matter what I tried he always had an answer. I had a couple of chances in the third game but my slow reactions meant I could not execute them and take advantage. Well played Dmitry, the opponents just get tougher from now :-) The old man might try again next year, but it's harder and harder to compete with you young bloods, it might be time to hang up my mouse and reach for my pipe and slippers ;D

Voodoo (England) 3 - 2 Bytor (USA) Geezus, where to begin... I will have to write a review another time, too much to mention! Lots of quality lightside and darkside, what all good games should be made of!
