Greetings!
This may well be the last time you are receiving an e-mail from the mind of Luís Crespo, the infamous host of the Crespo’s Worms Tournament, of which you take (or once took) part.
The time has come to make some final judgements for me in this insane world of Worms. My time has passed on, and my professional life is getting more and more demanding of my time each day that goes by. I can’t satisfy the needs that a good hosting demands. If you were playing in the latest times you might as well note that the updates to the site are done with more lag than 1 or 2 years ago. I can’t help it, I have less time for CWT each year. This got to a point where I must do something about it: I have decided to pass on the hosting duties to the one that has been behind me in the major calls around this awesome community: Mr. Robert Morris (aka TPenguin, formerly MrTPenguin). He is the one that will assume all the hosting procedures in the future years, assuming that there will be further CWTs, that is entirely up to the players – that is – YOU! Because I have no more time for CWT I can’t bother people up to play their games on schedule like I used to, and I think I did that pretty damn good, at least I’ve bothered you many times with questions like “have you arranged your next game?”. The fact that I can’t waste time bothering people like that anymore resulted in the lagging of CWT 2006 throughout the present summer.
I will still take care of the site until this year ends and those of you still in play will still probably ear from me. I trust you all to make your games on time.
Regarding the state of the community at the present time, I’m quite happy with what I have accomplished, specially if we take into account the rhythm of changing in cybernetic communities; we survived to the coming of the 3d world to Worms, to some troublesome cows and still we all, with our different cultural and personal backgrounds got together in our desks to wipe the others’s worms playing normal style. But nothing is eternal and the time of retirement is getting to me, and the coming of new blood is decreasing year after year so… In some time, CWT will probably be terminated for good, but not in the next 3 or 4 years me thinks.
I would like to thank everyone that positively contributed to the progress of CWT throughout the years, with special regard for people who have been playing for the first years (that is, 2002 and 2003).
As for what the host will do next, my professional life is very time consuming and in the next year I will have to take important decisions to my life because I will finish my graduation as a biologist (more exactly, an arachnologist). I will have a small stay in Copenhagen’s Zoological Museum from August 21st to September 2nd, and then I’ll head to Spain for the 23rd European Congress of Arachnology close to Barcelona; then I’ll return to Portugal; maybe in January 2007 I’ll have my first experience in the equatorial rain forest of the small atlantic islands of São Tomé and Principe, which are filled with new spider species left to be described by science. Then I really don’t know about my whereabouts, it all depends on several factors. I will try my best to shake hands in person with some of you (at least those of you who I gained some trust) but then again, it all depends of the future…
You all have a good life, I will try to have one of my own too.
In CWT 2007 (if there will be such a tournament) I will only be another brick in the wall, as TPenguin once said.
Most sincerely,
Luís Carlos da Fonseca Crespo, logging off the hosting duties.
